How to do italics in markdown

To make any portion of the text italics in markdown all we need to do is add an asterisk * or underscore _ before and after it like so:

This is _italic_
and so is _this_

which will give us the following:

This is italic

Similarly, almost all text editors (MDTX included) achieve the same via an italic I button. When pressed it will add two asterisks and any text written between them will be italics, or you can just highlight what you want to be italic and then press the I button to achieve the same result.
